UBC REC Staff at Lace Up for Kids 2009 The Student Staff Experience

UBC REC offers multiple opportunities to get involved. UBC REC relies on both student staff and student volunteers to operate every aspect of its program. Our student administrators fill roles in game management, event planning, sport officiating, human resources, public relations, facility supervision, marketing, program delivery and much more.

Marketing Sector: "The Creative Arena" The Marketing sector encompasses 6 diverse pillars founding the creation and development of UBC REC programming tailored to the UBC community consisting of Health Promotions, Design + Marketing, Media, Sponsorship, and Public Relations. The Marketing Sector sets the stage for our branding, our campus presence, our relationships with groups and corporations, and our innovation.

Leagues: "The Essence of Sport" The largest and most widespread sector, Leagues, includes over 60 staff members who organize and execute the 9 intramural leagues at UBC: volleyball, futsal, soccer, basketball, ice hockey, ball hockey, dodgeball, Ultimate, and flag football. Leagues staff duties include photography, scheduling games, facilitating set-up, takedown, and participant registration, hiring and training referees, and ultimately in creating the best possible participant experience.

Events: "The Productions" Our Events team is divided into 5 crews who each specialize in different athletic events throughout the year, ranging from Storm the Wall to Gladiator to the Triathlon/Duathlon to the Winter Badminton Tournament. Events staff work in all aspects of event planning including planning, recruitment, marketing, advertisement, scheduling, and execution, as well as working closely with campus and community groups in order to provide the best event experience.

Our student staff often describe their experience within the program as “life altering”! We offer a unique leadership development program that will assist students in all their future endeavours; whether it's a career in sports management or any other field, our students will leave the program with skills, extensive practical experience and memories that will last forever. No mattter what your major is here at UBC, there is a role that can benefit you as well as your resume.

UBC REC Volunteer Staff Overview - Coming Soon

League Sport Officials

UBC REC Leagues comprise one of the largest areas of the program, and as such employs over 200 officials every year. Many of the league sports, including basketball, volleyball, ice hockey, ball hockey, soccer/futsal, football, and dodgeball, require skilled, quality officials. For experienced officials or those familiar with the sport, officiating is a great way to remain in touch with the game while earning money. Additionally, UBC REC provides thorough training for those who are interested in becoming officials.
